Surface Design For Fashion

Well we've now broken up from Uni for the Christmas holidays but we still have a lot of work to get done while we're off. I collected a sample of designs that I had digitally printed yesterday- which have come out really well and I am really pleased with them! I am really enjoying my current project and am hoping that some of my designs will be chosen to be taken to Indigo Paris Trade Show, which I am also going to be working at, which will be amazing! I am loving this project however I am soo looking forward to having some time off to relax.

We had a Christmas night in in our flat the other evening, where myself and my flatmate cooked a Christmas dinner for 7 people- what a challenge! We had an amazing night in! Below I have attached some pictures from our flat, and also some of my current work.

Here are my digitally printed pieces of fabric. I printed them on Cotton Jersey Leon. I was planning on making a top out of one of the middle fabrics, however I have decided that my hand and machine embroidery designs will be more effective then these designs, however I love how well they have come out. I created the design on Photoshop, and then edited the colours and contrast to see how different they could become. The two images on either side were photocopies of Orchids on a photo copier, which I then scanned into Photoshop and edited the colours. I am planning on sewing onto these and appliqueing them onto my designs.
Below is an image of how my work bay is looking at Uni. When we hand in our project we have to display some of our work in the corridor, and I can't wait to display mine as I am going to stick up a lot of my manipulated fabrics and 3D work. Below is a mixture of real leaves, screen printed background, PVA glue painted leaf, photocopies of my work made into 3D orchids, and also machine embroidered leaves. I used this board to start to experiment with how I could create different effects.

Surface Design for Fashion

Today was my first day working on my new project Surface Design for Fashion. I chose the trend Carnival to work on. Today I collected some flowers and leaves that linked well to my trend, and put together my mood board.

Kirkley Hall

Well, this week gone I finished my first project of my second year at CCAD. Unfortunately I am unable to blog about it for a little while, but when I can I will definately be telling you all about it! I absolutely loved the project, but was exhausted at the end of it.
A good friend of mine is studying Animal Management at Kirkley Hall, in Northumberland, so today I took a visit as I am wanting to use bird feathers and reptiles to draw for my new project which is Surface Design for Fashion. Hopefully some of my designs will be chosen to be taken to Paris Indigo Trade show in February, which I am hoping to be able to get some work experience on!
Kirkley Hall is an old manor house, which also has a Zoological centre to it, and they house a huge range of different animals. Below are some images I took, and I will upload some images of my work as it progresses during this project!

Check it out here.

National Glass Centre

Wow I can't believe it's been two weeks since I came back from London. I know I didn't blog in my last week, that's because I worked late all week, and was exhausted by the end of the week. I absolutely loved my time there though!
Since coming back up North I have moved into a flat with two girls from uni and started my first project for year 2 at CCAD. More about that project will be uploaded soon.
Today I visited the National Glass Centre in Sunderland. I have visited once before with my dad years ago! It's not huge, but has some gorgeous glass pieces and you can watch demonstrations on glass blowing.

London- Day 16.17.18.19.20

I apologise for not blogging all week! By the time I have got back to the flat in the evenings I have been exhausted, but here is a break down of what I've done in my third week of my London adventure along with some pictures!

Monday- I felt very home sick today so after work I took a wander down Oxford Street, just so I didn't need to go straight back to the flat.

Tuesday- Today I was given the task of trying to create a template for the table cloth for Paris. I also had to find out if we had enough material to fit all these table cloths on! Took forever! After work I met a friend at Clapham Common for dinner.

Wednesday- Today I was sent along to Brick Lane to find a supply store to buy some foam board to make a mock up of the table for Paris. I had a very 'Devil Wears Prada Moment'! Ehen she carries the kayaks along and keeps hitting people, that was me except i was with two huge pieces of foam board that kept being caught in the wind! I was so exhausted after work that I headed straight back to the flat to have a chilled out evening- only to be disrupted by the fire alarm!

Thursday- I continued making table cloths today with help from another girl on placement, which meant we flew through them. The company bought a new industrial sewing machine last week, which I was terrifie to use because I have used one before and was absolutely rubbish on it, but I have actually really enjoyed using it! After work I met up with a friend and headed to Fashions Big Night Out on Oxford street and Bond Street. Loads of the shops got involved to hand out freebies and discounts. It was obvious that some of the more expensive shops -Alexander McQueen- were guest list only, but there was a nice atmosphere when walking along th street. I also spotted model and TV presenter Jameela Jamil. We then wandered to China Town for a very yummy Chinese!!

Friday- I really enjoyed today at work. I have been working on the table cloths for the Paris Trade Show, so I continued with them and then started on a few in a different colour. I was also asked by my boss to alter a dress for one of the girls who works on the digital side of Tom Cody. The dress was absolutely amazing!! Heavily beaded in gold and bronze, and longer at the back. I felt so under pressure not to mess up, however the girl really like the finished effect. After work I headed straight to the V&A Museum as it is open late on Fridays. I visited the Ballgowns exhibition, which I really enjoyed, and then had a wander round the other rooms that were open. I didn't realise that they would have a cocktail bar and DJ. Once I left there I wandered along to Knightsbridge Tube station, which led me past Harrods which was all lit up, and also via Topshop, where I found a gorgeous beaded top that I want!! Having worked with so many items that are all so heavily beaded, I am in need of an item of my own!

London- Weekend 2

I can't believe I'm halfway through my placement already!!! It has flown by! I have really enjoyed the past two weeks.
This weekend I went to Madame Tussaud's on Saturday morning with my friend that was visiting. We then had a very stressed trip to Victoria so my friend could catch her coach home, unfortunately as we were running through the coach station, we saw it pull away! So we both headed to Camden Market to have a wander round there. I didn't really know what to expect but I absolutely loved it!

This morning I had a lovely long lie in! And then headed back to Buckingham Palace, to have a look around the State Rooms. Unfortunately the State Rooms were fully booked until Tuesday, so instead I headed to The Queen's Gallery to see the Leonardo Da Vinci- Which was amazing!!!
I then headed to Westminster Abbey as I really wanted to see that, and I am going to head back there one night this week to have a look around inside.

London- Day 13

It was hectic today at work!! An package had to be ready by 2.30pm to send to the New York studio! This morning I was drawing out leaf silouettes to then bond-a-web on to velvet I had died earlier, to then stick on blue denim jeans. The jeans had been screen printed on to with blue foil. After I had bond-a-web'd the designs to the velvet I realised I had done it in the wrong side!! I couldn't believe I had made such a stupid mistake! I then had to re-dye fabric and draw out the patterns all over again. Eventually after completing that I was given another pair of jeans, that had been screen printed on, to see together. Once I completed that, it was panic stations to try and get everything done for the FedEx man.
My boss then said that I could have the afternoon off, which I was so happy about as I could go and meet Beth and see Buckingham Palace. The flag was flying so Her Majesty was at home!
We then wandered to Oxford Street and down to the brand new Victoria Secrets which has just opened. The store is amazing!! It's gorgeous and huge! They have loads of the outfits and garment from previous fashion shows!
We then headed along to Soho and found loads of gorgeous looking fabric shops which were unfortunately closed so I will deffinately be heading back!!
