London- Day 13

It was hectic today at work!! An package had to be ready by 2.30pm to send to the New York studio! This morning I was drawing out leaf silouettes to then bond-a-web on to velvet I had died earlier, to then stick on blue denim jeans. The jeans had been screen printed on to with blue foil. After I had bond-a-web'd the designs to the velvet I realised I had done it in the wrong side!! I couldn't believe I had made such a stupid mistake! I then had to re-dye fabric and draw out the patterns all over again. Eventually after completing that I was given another pair of jeans, that had been screen printed on, to see together. Once I completed that, it was panic stations to try and get everything done for the FedEx man.
My boss then said that I could have the afternoon off, which I was so happy about as I could go and meet Beth and see Buckingham Palace. The flag was flying so Her Majesty was at home!
We then wandered to Oxford Street and down to the brand new Victoria Secrets which has just opened. The store is amazing!! It's gorgeous and huge! They have loads of the outfits and garment from previous fashion shows!
We then headed along to Soho and found loads of gorgeous looking fabric shops which were unfortunately closed so I will deffinately be heading back!!

London- Day 12- Young and Trendy

Today at work I was in the dye lab a lot trying to create the correct colours to be used on garments. I can't wait to get back in the dye lab at CCAD and start experimenting with colours and techniques again!
After work I met up with my friend who's visiting from Newcastle, and we went for a wander through China Town and then sat in Leicester square having Chinese out a box with chop sticks. We then headed down toward The Mall to try and head up towards Buckingham Palace. Unfortunately because the Paralympic Maraton takes place there on Sunday, The Mall was closed off on sections. We took a detour to try and reach the palace, however on the way we stumbled across what we thought was a film set... again! It turned out it was an advert for a fashion house that was being filmed. It was obviously being filmed for Christmas as they had a Christmas tree and door wreath, along with fake snow which was amazing!!! It turned out that it was being filmed for Jack Wills, so I will deffinately be keeping my eyes peeled for that!!

London- Day 11

Well today at work I continued to style garments, and sewed some sleeves for a top, and was also sent on a goose chase to Edgware! Instead of it taking me approximately 30 minutes as planned, it took an hour and a half! Eventually when we were on the right street, number 292 seemed to disappear! After the taxi driver driving up and down the street a few times, I finally dropped off the package I had to deliver and headed for the tube station to go and meet my best friend Beth in Topshop, Oxford Street!
I'm now sitting in Trafalga square waiting for the Paralympics to start! I'm so glad I'll be able to be apart of the celebrations while I'm here!

London- Weekend 1-Part 2

Sunday morning we went to Harrod's and explored every department. I was extremely dissapointed that there were no puppies in the Pet Kingdom! After the Harrod's we walked through Hyde Park which was gorgeous!
We then headed down Bond Street, and ended up walking into the middle of a film set! It took us ages to realise what was actually going on, but we stood and watched a scene from Princess Diana The Movie being filmed!

That evening we had tickets for The London Eye and The Ice Bar. Which were both incredible!!

Today at work I continued styling items. I was given this ancient sewing machine to use as the others were all playing up, and although it took me ages to work out how to use it, and then set it up, I loved using it!! I'm really enjoying learning the styling techniques, and learning about the business.

London- Weekend 1

I apologise for not blogging in a few days! My boyfriend came down to spend the bank holiday weekend with me and I didn't get a chance to update my blog.
Well my first week at Tom Cody is over. I didn't know what to expect when I came for my placement, but it is so different compared to university. Everything has got to be done so quickly, and although I haven't been doing any designing myself, I do know that three weeks on one project is considered far too long, whereas 7 or 8 weeks at uni is the norm! I am really enjoying it but it is very hard.

On Thursday I got my first glimpse of Big Ben! I went for a wander in Covent Garden with a girl from work and ended up wandering down to Trafalga Square, then back up through the side streets of Covent Garden. I then headed along to Leicester Square to get the tube.

Friday evening I went back to Covent Garden with my BF and headed to the M&M store, which I will definitely be heading back to before I head back to Newcastle. Saturday we had a lazy morning as I was so tired from my first week in London. For my birthday the beginning of this month my boyfriend got us tickets to see Thriller at the Lyric Theatre! Which was absolutely AMAZING!!! We then headed along to Ripley's Believe it or Not, which is definitely worth a visit, and then had tea at The Rainforest Cafe- which I love because I am a big kid!!

This painting was completed in a minute.

I will upload some more pictures of things I got up to over this weekend tomorrow!!

London- Day 4

Today I was far too tired to go for a walk and explore London, so what I thought I would do is take a few pics of my journey to work. I will take a few every couple of days and see what interesting things I can find!

The flat I'm staying at is within the grounds of a hospital, and the old building is really gorgeous. I'm definitely going to take more pictures of it.

Seven years bad luck for someone!

Today I was again styling items for the trade show in Paris in September. The items are tops that have been reverse appliqu├ęd on the front. It took me forever to stitch them together and sew the trims on as the fabrics are so delicate! Above is a picture of the cute courtyard that the design studio is based in. It's a lot cuter in person!

London- Day 3

Today was my second day at my placement which went really well again. I was doing 'styling' where I had to sew tops together and finish the edges ready for a trade show in September. At lunch I got talking to the other girls who are also at Tom Cody, about experiences they have had, in particular New Designers, which hopefully I will get to visit next year.

After work I decided to take a wander rather than heading straight back to my flat. Below are just a few of the pictures I took. I got off the tube and London Bridge station and took a walk along with water front and came across Hay's Galleria, which used to be a wharf  around an enclosed dock, which eventually saw 80% of perishable foods pass through. It was absolutely gorgeous with fairy lights and a wonderful water feature in the middle. I continued and came to an open air gallery featuring Tom Stoddart's work. It was really interesting wandering in and out of the pictures and reading the captions. I then headed over London Bridge, and wandered into St. Katharine Dock, which was absolutely amazing! I couldn't believe I had just walked through a single arch from the busy road, into a gorgeous dock full of yachts.

I love this image of Tom Stoddart. It felt like I was actually standing there with all those people.

St. Katharine Dock was amazing!

I grabbed a map from an information desk, and it just made me think of the map Joey uses in Friends- the pop up one!

London- Day 2

Today was my first day at my placement with Tom Cody. I am absolutely exhausted but loved it! I was given garments that someone had embroidered onto, to stitch together and bond-a-web the edges together. I'll try and get some pictures of the studio for you but may not be able to get pics of the work.

I have worked out that some of the companies that Tom Cody design for are All Saints and TopShop. I think the first week or so I will be helping out with sewing and printing, but at some point I can hopefully start designing myself.

I don't have any photos of today, except this one of the view from my bedroom window. I'm 7 stories up and get a fantastic view! Luckily the weather isn't quite as hot today and I don't feel like I'm going to melt!

Business Cards

I have been playing about with some business card ideas, as I want to make sure I have some with me for my trip to London, which is in just over 2 weeks time... AHHH!!! Let me know what you think of my designs. I really liked them, however when printed they're not very clear.

I can't wait for my placement in London! I've got an ever growing list of things and places I want to visit while I'm there. If you have any suggestions, let me know!
